I recently attended a conference held by the Law Society’s Civil Justice Section – Litigators: survive and thrive. One key message was aimed at personal injury lawyers who – with the Jackson timebomb ticking and set for detonation in under six months – could be about to see their usual income stream blown away.
I do not think anyone would claim the legal aid scheme is perfect anymore than the NHS is. Far from it, most people would say, but both could be worse. The NHS has much more support from the public than legal aid is ever going to get. The perception of legal aid is it provides money for undeserving causes such as criminals, foreigners and lawyers. However, most people’s attitudes only change when they are seeking funding for themselves or others.
I quite like watching the TV comedy show 8 Out of 10 Cats. Not just because of its entertainment value but because of what it highlights about marketing – yes, even the marketing of law firms.
In case anyone doesn’t know, 8 Out of 10 Cats is based on surveys about how the public respond to various questions.
